Call for Papers and Demos

The ADASS Conference Series provides a forum for scientists and computer specialists concerned with algorithms, software and operating systems in the acquisition, reduction and analysis of astronomical data. The program includes invited talks, contributed papers, poster sessions as well as tutorial sessions, user group meetings and special interest meetings ("BOFs''). All these activities aim to encourage communication between software specialists and users, and also to stimulate further development of astronomical software and systems.

Note: There will be less time available for contributed oral presentations this year than in the past. Selection of contributed papers for the oral program will depend in large measure upon the quality of the submitted abstract and upon the likelihood that the subject matter will appeal to a broad audience.

Presentation Instructions

Oral Presentation Instructions
Oral presentations are 12 minutes with 3 minutes for questions (contributed papers) and 25 minutes with 5 minutes for questions (invited papers). A laptop running windows 95/98 or linux attached to a LCD projector for computer-aided presentations will be available to run applications such as PowerPoint or a web browser. In addition, overhead and slide projectors, as well as a VCR, connected to the LCD projector, will be available. Those wishing to make use of electronic presentation equipment should have indicated this on the Equipment Requests section of the Abstract Submission Form, or have contacted the LOC at adass@cfht.hawaii.edu.

If you plan to make an electronic presentation, you will be given access to a computer at CFHT prior to the conference so that you may ftp the presentation materials to our site. Instructions concerning the transfer of materials will be provided shortly. Before you arrive at the conference please contact an LOC member, far in advance of your session, in order to go over the details of your presentation.

All oral presenters are advised to be prepared with hard copy transparencies in case of equipment failure.

Poster Presentation Instructions

Poster papers will be displayed on panels (freestanding bulletin boards). The available area will be approximately 4 feet wide and 4 feet high. Push pins for attaching posters will be supplied. Note that there will not be flat table space or chairs next to the poster areas.

Computer Demonstration Instructions

Notice - Computer Demos requests have reached the maximum capacity. No additional Computer Demo requests will be accepted.

Computer demonstrations sessions will run concurrently with the poster session and allow presenters to demonstrate software or network-based services (e.g., web sites).

For your demo, you will be provided with:

If you do not want any of these items to be included in your booth, please notify the LOC (adass@cfht.hawaii.edu) as soon as possible.

Only Sun workstations and NCD xterminals will be available. If you requested a computer for your demo, it will be set up and ready for you to install your software on Sunday. You will be contacted soon by email with more specific instructions and information concerning the hardware you will be using.

If you are bringing your own equipment, you are encouraged to bring appropriate security accessories with you. Security will be provided for the demo room during hours that the room is open; the room will be locked at night. If you plan to remove your equipment during, or at the end of the day, be sure to let a LOC member know.

Note, that the display board will be different than that of the poster presentations and will require materials to be attached with Velcro, which will be supplied.

Abstract Submission Instructions

NOTICE - Abstracts for all types of presentations have reached the maximum capacity. No additional requests will be accepted as of 13 August 1999.

Abstracts can be submitted using the ADASS'99 Abstract Submission Form. You can use LaTeX formatting within the text of your abstract for mathematical symbols etc.

If you have any problems with the abstract form you can send email to adass@cfht.hawaii.edu
