More Exhibits

More exhibits were presented to the general public during the afternoon: our Coude fiber-fed spectrograph, adaptive optics, OASIS, MegaPrime project, CCDs and image processing.

Joshua, our most recent employee, wonder if what astronomers sometimes see are not just optical illusions...

Many exhibits attracted curious visitors who could ask the staff questions.

Two spectroscopists (David and Nadine) discuss Gecko, the Coude spectrograph. A spectrograph is just an instrument that produces "rainbows" by splitting the different colors (or wavelengths) coming from a planet, star or galaxy.

Adaptive optics system correct astronomical images for the blurring effects of Earth's atmosphere, as Olivier was explaining.

The beautiful color images that were adorning our walls were produced by our camera CFH12K using 3 filters. Jean-Charles was explaining the different steps that lead to those wonderful pictures.
