Human colonization

Due to their extreme remoteness (they are the most isolated land formations on the planet), the Hawaiian Islands were colonized by humans only rather recently, less than 2,000 years ago, which is little more than a heartbeat compared to the timescale of the archipelago's formation. The Polynesians were the first to set foot on the island, while hundreds of years later westerners arrived.
