This page contains separate lists for each type of standard star; telluric, radial velocity, and transmission. Select the desired table from the list below. Part of these stars are followed as part of the SPIRou calibration plan. Others are shown for reference and can be used by PIs for additional calibration.

List Compiled by Etienne Artigau. Additional stellar data added by Cam Wipper.

These stars were identified using the following Simbad search parameters:

  • 'V' band Magnitude between 3.0 and 6.0.
  • Spectral Type between A0 and A9.
  • v sin i > 200 km/s
  • Not known to be a binary (resolved or spectroscopic).
  • Not flagged as an emission line object in Simbad.
  • Not known to be a variable star.
  • Matched to the 2MASS catalog.
  • North of -30 Declination.

This resulted in 62 stars meeting the above criteria. Then a first visit with SPIRou allowed to reject several stars, which spectra showed stellar emission features, SB signatures, or non-appropriate rotational profiles. The stars currently observed in the SPIRou calibration plan are listed in the table below, by RA bin.

The raw criteria search was "[ rot.vsini >=200 & sptypes<='A9' & sptypes>='A0' & Vmag>=3 & Vmag<=6 ]"

Due to the amount of data on these stars, the relevant information is divided between two different tables.

UPDATE: Radial Velocity Standards changed for Semester 2022B

Starting in 2022B, the list of Radial Velocity standards has changed. The RV stability of some of the previous standards was deemed insufficient. Those stars have been removed from the list and replaced with more stable stars. Both sets of radial velocity standards are shown below.

    Table 3: Transmission & Polarimetric** Calibration Stars

    List Complied by Cam Wipper, with assistance from Pascal Fouqué.

    An initial list of stars were identified as meeting the following criteria:

    • 'H' band Magnitude of 4.5 or brighter.
    • Declination between -20 and +60.
    • Proper Motion of ~200 mas/yr or lower.
    • Spectral Type between A0 and M9.
    • Luminosity Class V (Main Sequence Stars)
    • Not known to be variable stars or part of binary/multiple star systems

    This resulted in 78 stars meeting the above criteria.
    The raw criteria search was "[ Hmag < 4.5 & dec > -20 & dec < 60 & pm < 300 & sptypes = 'XXX' ]".
    The results were then manually sorted.

    Finally, one star from each spectral class (B, A, F, G, K and M) was selected from each three-hour RA bin
    to serve as the spectral type standard star for that RA bin. Additional stars were added if the initial list did not have a particular
    spectral type in an RA bin--these additional stars may not meet all of the criteria listed above.
