CFHT OBSERVING REPORT
RunID: 03AF13
Name: Grazyna Stasinska
Email Address: grazyna.stasinska@obspm.fr
Support Astronomer: Magnier
Observing Assistant #1: Woodworth
Observing Assistant #2: Select
Instrument: MOS
Detector: EEV1
Number of nights: 1
# of hours lost to weather: 0
# of hours lost to CFHT: 0.5
# of hours lost to setup: 0
# of hours lost to other reasons: 0
Results obtained: We obtained deep near-uv spectroscopy of the most oxygen-poor
halo planetary nebula.
Scientific Success: excellent
Recommendations: We found that the facilities were excellent and
the staff very pleasant, helpful and efficient.
The assistance of Eugene Magnier and David
Woodworth was excellent.
On the downside...
We found that connecting our laptops to the network
both in Hale Pohaku and at the summit was more
complex than appeared necessary, though we admit to
not being familiar with all of the concerns
involved.
There were also various problems that appeared to
be related to the new expose form in the MOS
environment. After focussing, several exposures
were required to change the exposure type back to
object. The option to edit the raster list does
not appear to function, though the raster form
does. At the end of the night, there was also a
problem in convincing the calibration mirror to
move into the proper position for calibration
exposures. Fortunately, all of these problems were
resolved rapidly thanks to the efforts of Eugene
Magnier and David Woodworth.
One specific request is that the "Information for
Observers", www.cfht.hawaii.edu/ObsInfo/instructions.html,
be amended to emphasize that there is no longer a
sign indicating the turn off from the saddle road.
In general, we are very pleased with our run, so
congratulations and our thanks to all involved.
