CFHT OBSERVING REPORT
RunID: 03AF22
Name: Chauvin
Email Address: gael.chauvin@obs.ujf-grenoble.fr
Support Astronomer: Forveille
Observing Assistant #1: Woodworth
Observing Assistant #2: Luthe (Rusty)
Instrument: AOB
Detector: KIR
Number of nights: 3
# of hours lost to weather: 8
# of hours lost to CFHT: 1.5
# of hours lost to setup: 0
# of hours lost to other reasons: 0
Results obtained: We have performed coronagraphic observations to search for CS disk around stars hosting planets.
We observed 8 targets on the 11 initially forseen in the program, with their corresponding reference stars.
The atmospheric conditions were not ideal with the presence of clouds, sometimes quite thick, during the run.
The PSF was not as stable as we had wished. The PSF stability is crucial for the detection of extended sources like CS disks.
For these reasons, we estimated the scientific success of our run to average.
Scientific Success: average
Recommendations: Thanks a lot to have done all what was possible to provide the coronagraphic mask for the run. As we have no experience in reducing saturated data to search for disks, the use of the coronagraph was necessary.
Upgrade of the KIR readout time will still be very appreciated for future observations.
Thanks to Jim for his help, and all the CFHT staff.
