The archive host is alohi, a Sun Sparc 5 workstation with two disks that are mirrored and two Exabytes drive. The backup host is ikaika.
A regular account has been created for the archive manager. Login is archive. It is under this account that the archive pipeline (and more generally the archive machine alohi) should be accessed. All the archive related files and proccesses are owned by the archive user. The archive user was made part of the daprog group in order to be able to remove files from the summit shadow directory (see 4.1). The archive user's home directory is currently /h/archive. The /archive/sw partition is copied to ikaika via the rdist command.
The archive user's .cshrc file has been set up to add /archive/sw/adm and /archive/sw/etc in the path search pattern.
The archive user receives by mail all the warning and error messages from the archive pipeline. All this mail is actually archived in the file uwila:/opt/uwila_data/mail-archive/archive and also forwarded to the real life archive managers, that is currently Bob Link and myself.
