This is another update concerning the current status of instruments
at CFHT.  Comments and suggestions about the newsletter may be

A new, and we hope improved, LaTeX macro for the CFHT Observing Time Request
form has been placed in the CFHT anonymous ftp directory.  To obtain the
required files try the following from your computer (since the macro consists
of several separate files you will likely want to create a special directory
on your computer and ftp from that directory):

{prompt} : ftp ftp.cfht.hawaii.edu
{prompt} : Name (....) : anonymous
{prompt} : Password: [enter your E-mail address here]
{prompt} : cd pub/cfht-manuals/cfhform
{prompt} : ls
{prompt} : prompt
{prompt} : binary
{prompt} : mget *
{prompt} : quit

Instructions for using the macros can be found in the README file.  Make sure
you LaTeX the file cfhinfo.tex and print it (or print the uncompressed
PostScript file cfhinfo.ps) before completing your application as this
document contains application deadline information, recent updates, and
the Service Observing Exposure Template.  If you do not use LaTeX you can
also print a blank application form, ingeniously called blankform.ps (again
after uncompressing it). Only one file needs to be edited by the applicant:
blankform.tex, or cfhform.tex if you want to use a previously completed
form as the starting point.  See the README file for more information.

If you do not have access to a UNIX machine and do not plan on using the
LaTeX macro but do want to print the above two PostScript files then you
should contact a CFHT resident astronomer who can temporarily create an
uncompressed version for you.  Note, however, that these forms are essentially
identical to the version that you or your institution have likely been sent
via regular mail.

Finally, this macro is valid for the first semester of 1994 only!  An updated
version will be placed in the same ftp area well in advance of the observing
deadline for each semester.
