MONEY AND PUBLIC TELEPHONE:
---------------------------

One hundred French Francs correspond to about twenty US dollars:
 
                 100 FF ~ US $20
                 US $1  ~ FF 5.00
                 CA $1  ~ FF 3.60


In France public telephones require a card (like a credit Card) which
is sold in any newsstands (e.g. in the railway station or airport).
The lowest capacity Card is about FF 60. Note that except for Paris
there are no unique area codes. Long distance calls to the US or
Canada may also be made with telephone company calling cards.


MEALS:
------

Lunches will be taken at the cafeteria on the conference site. Each
participant must have his badge with the conference label to have 
access to the cafeteria. The price is FF 60 per day. If you wish to
eat elsewhere, there are several restaurants near the ENSL.

A dinner for the meeting participants will be arranged for Tuesday
evening May 16. Details will be furnished at a later date; price
approximately FF 200.


ACCESS TO INTERNET:
-------------------

Each participant will have an account on the computer of the site.
The confidential password will be given in a letter provided at the
registration desk, on the first day. 


XEROX COPIES:
-------------
A xerox machine will be available near the conference room. The copies
will be free but people will have to make them themselves.

The city map of Lyon will be provided in time, by ordinary mail, to all the
participants.


ARRIVAL BY AIR IN PARIS 
-----------------------

ORLY AIRPORT:
============

You should use the "Orlyval" automatic train up to "Antony" and then the train
"RER" ligne B up to Chatelet - Les Halles" and then ligne A2 or A4  up to the 
railway station "Gare de Lyon" (about 1 h) to take the train "TGV".


ROISSY CHARLES-DE-GAULLE:
========================

You should use the train "RER" ligne B up to "Chatelet-les-Halles" and 
then ligne A2 or A4  up to the railway station "Gare de Lyon" (about 1h30min)
to take the train "TGV".

"TGV" takes 2h15min to go from Paris to Lyon and the last "TGV" leaves Paris
"Gare de Lyon"  at 21:50.  Cost for "TGV" which depends on the departure time,
is about FF 850 (1st class round trip) and about FF 600 (2nd class round trip).
Please, note that use of the "TGV" requires both a ticket and a seat reservation
(special ticketing windows). Don't forget to punch your ticket when entering the
railway platform.

To reach your hotel see "ARRIVAL BY TRAIN".

ARRIVAL BY AIR IN LYON (SATOLAS): 
--------------------------------

You should use the shuttle "Satobus" starting from the exit of each
terminal.
The Satobus starts every 20 min (from 5:00 to 23:00) on working days
and Saturday morning and it starts every 30 min from Saturday 13:00 to
Sunday night (23:00) to railway station Lyon-Part-Dieu (30 min) 
or railway station Lyon-Perrache (40 min).
cost: FF 45 or FF 80  for return trip (ask for "un aller-retour"), valid
two months.



ARRIVAL BY TRAIN:
----------------

Lyon has two train stations ; "TGV" first arrives to Lyon Part-Dieu station
and then takes 10 min to its terminal station "Lyon-Perrache". Given the more
convenient location of the Lyon-Perrache station it is advisable to choose a
train that will stop there.

When you are at the railway station LYON-PERRACHE, to reach either hotel IBIS
or hotel MERCURE near ENSL:

1) You may walk: about 1/2 hour, along cours Charlemagne and Pont Pasteur
   (crossing the "Rhone")

2) You may use a Taxi: cost approximately FF 40. 

3) You may use a Bus: number 96, cost FF 7,50, 10 min ride. Don't forget to punch
   your ticket when entering the bus.


When you are in the railway station PART-DIEU, to reach either hotel IBIS or
hotel MERCURE near ENSL:

1) You may use a Taxi: cost approximately FF 70

2) You may use the "metro" (underground) ligne B up to "Jean Mace" and then
   a Bus: number 96, cost FF 7.50,
   20 min (the metro ticket is valid also for the bus, but don't forget to 
   punch it each time you enter either metro or bus).

Note that metro/bus tickets are sold in every bus and in the metro:
cost FF 7,50 per ticket or FF 65 if you buy a book of 10 tickets.

All recommended additional hotels are near the Perrache railway station,
which is at walking distance from the center of Lyon.
