Glen Petitpas SMA-Hilo SMA Observations of Galaxies Near and Far I present recent extragalactic results from the Submillimeter Array. I will discuss a wide variety of topics, ranging from nearby to high redshift galaxies. Starting locally, I will discuss the SMA CO Nearby Extragalactic Survey (SCONES). The goal of this project is to study nearby galaxies in CO J=2-1, 13CO J=2-1, CO J=3-2 as well as 1300 and 870 micron continuum. By combining these SMA results with existing BIMA, OVRO, PdB data, we can systematically characterize the warm ISM in these galaxies at high resolution. Moving out in redshift, we come to the SMA U/LIRG survey. I will present briefly the results from our 29 night Key Project to study the warm gas in Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies. Finally, I will show some new results for SMA observations of high redshift submillimeter galaxies.
