Title: UKIRT's multiple roles and science highlights

Abstract: UKIRT is, in common with many 4-m telescopes, varying its
role and capabilities significantly in response to pressures from a
variety of directions. This is a highly significant point in the
telescope's history, with the wide-field surveys undertaken with WFCAM
in full swing, and the Cassegrain suite still developing and turning
out unique world-class results. I will discuss some of the operational
and other changes the observatory has undergone in the evolution to
its current mutiple-mode operation, and outline some of its unique
capabilities with science highlights from the past year.
