Science
CFHT's scientific staff is composed of resident
and staff astronomers, visiting astronomers, Service Observers, and Observing
Assistants. This page presents the scientific activities performed at CFHT,
which are overseen by different committees.
Science
activities at CFHT
- Besides time spent on their own research projects, CFHT's astronomers
organize and attend Seminars.
- CFHT astronomers are also involved in recently completed or ongoing
Instrumentation Projects:
- ESPaDOnS, an Echelle
SpectroPolarimetric Device for the Observation of Stars at CFHT, installed at
CFHT in August 2004
- WIRCam, the new CFHT wide-field infrared
camera (20'x20', 0.3" pixels)
- `OHANA is the optical Hawaiian Array for
Nanoradian Astronomy project
- PUEO NUI, an upgrade to the AO Bonnette
- A few astronomers have contributed articles for the
local newspaper North Hawaii News.
- CFHT's library is a great source of information
that includes a database of
International Astronomy meetings and a
core list of Astronomy books, both compiled by our librarian, all of CFHT's
Information Bulletins, important information on
working at high altitude, and much more.
The future of CFHT is discussed by the Next
Generation CFHT committee
Scientific results
from CFHT data
Scientific results obtained from CFHT data are often presented in the News. Please consult the
News section for our latest discoveries.
CFHT data archive at CADC
Observations obtained with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope from
February 1990 to the present are
archived at the CADC.
The CFHT archive at CADC allows searches by observation meta-data, such
as object name and run ID, and presents the results of the search in
a tabular format. Users can request and receive archival data and, for
some imaging data, previews of CFHT data.
Seminars
Seminars are presented at CFHT on a semi-regular basis.
