WEATHER CONDITIONS
- Check carefully the amount of ice/snow on the lightning rail
that runs around the dome and on the transfer conductors that are
springloaded into that rail.
Do not open in questionable conditions!
Example, when two or more inches of ice are surrounding the inner
track, it may not be possible to rotate it (consider however
it might melt it off).
- Make sure DOME STRIP HEATER is on.
- In ice/snow conditions, make sure you parked the car as protected
as possible from falling ice/snow and away from the wind, brake off.
- To check for windblown dust, tape a piece of paper out
in the dome and periodically run your hand accross it to check
for cinder dust; you can also check visually a bowl of water.
- To check for humidity, do not rely only on the humidity
readings, it is not safe to open until you see the water is drying
up on the catwalk railing.
The water condense easily and, if low temperature, froze on the
instrument window.
- IF the weather is threatening, try to fill the instruments dewar
on time, before you have to leave the summit.
