- Function: they are equivalent to beam-splitters (with T and R)
- Principle: · the cores of 2 single-mode fibers are brought together to within a few microns
· the modes of each fiber interact by evanescent fields
- Adjustment of Tand R: determined by length of coupling region (can be flat over a few 100 nm range)
