Isolation

Oui, même à Hawaii, on met de l'isolation dans les murs! Ça garde la maison au frais durant le jour quand ça monte à 35C l'été, et ça garde l'intérieur chaud quand ça descend à 10-12C durant les nuits d'hiver. Ça insonorise aussi! Alors on est allé chez Home Depot une bonne demi-douzaine de fois pour rapporter des rouleaux de R-13 et aussi de quoi isoler les tuyaux d'eau.

Insulation

Yes, even in Hawaii, we put insulation in walls! It keeps the house cool during the hot 95F summer days, and keeps it warm during the 60F winter nights. It also makes the house more quiet. So we went half a dozen times to Home Depot, to get rolls of R-13 and also something to insulate the water pipes.

Pour cacher les tuyaux dans le plafond du carport, une soffite a été construite puis remplie d'isolant.

To hide the pipes in the carport ceiling, a soffit was built and stuffed with insulation.

L'installation n'a pas été faite tout à fait correctement: chaque bande doit s'insérer entre 2 montants et être agrafée sur le côté du montant, pas sur sa face, sinon l'isolation déborde de chaque baie... Il a fallu replacer quelques bandes, surtout celles dans le plafond, pour ne pas compliquer la pose du gyprock.

The installation was not done correctly: the insulation should have been stapled on the sides of each stud, not on its face. So the insulation was bulging out a bit, which only caused problems when installing the drywall on the ceilings. Those strips of insulation had to be redone.

L'infrastructure pour la porte coulissante de la salle de bain a été installée... du mauvais côté, puis du bon!

The bathroom pocket door frame was installed... incorrectly, then on the right side!

On était fin prêts pour le gyprock quand il s'est mis à pleuvoir 1cm à l'heure pendant plusieurs jours, sans répit... Le chemin est devenu tellement boueux que même les camions à traction intégrale glissaient comme sur une patinoire! On a reporté la livraison des matériaux 3 fois, causant un délai d'environ 2 semaines.

We were ready for the drywall when it decided to rain 6-8 inches per day, non stop, for over a week! The road was so muddy than even 4WD trucks were sliding like on ice! We delayed the materials' delivery 3 times, and started 2 weeks later than planned.

Mais, finalement, le travail a pu commencer, et le tout a été terminé en moins de 3 semaines.

Finally, people were able to start working again, and everything was done within 3 weeks.

Pendant que les travailleurs s'occupaient des murs, Jeff et Nadine avaient du magasinage à faire!
