The Kona Amateur Radio Society shall hold its Next Meeting on

Sunday, April 21 from 2 to 5 PM
at the south end of Wawaloli Beach Park at NELHA

This month's club meeting food theme will be a healthy food theme to celebrate Earth Day. Please bring a favorite dish to share.

  • A new 2 meter repeater in North Hawaii?
  • Eric Grabowski, KH6CQ, District Emergency Coordinator for the Hawaii Amateur Radio Emergency Service, is working on a new 2 meter repeater that will cover most of the North Hawaii ARES district. This repeater will be on 147.84/24 MHz.

2011
  • Simulated Emergency Test - October 1, 2011 9:00 am - 12 noon HST
    Each year, amateur radio operators in Hawaii participate in the annual Simulated Emergency Test or SET. The national organization ARRL sponsors it for the first Saturday in October. The exercise in 2011 will be conducted on Saturday, October 1, 2010 9:00 am - 12 noon HST. The scenario for 2011 is a tsunami exercise, simulating the arrival of two destructive tsunamis from a 9.0 Moment earthquake.

  • Big Island International Hamfest - October 23, 2010
    The Big Island International Hamfest will be Sat. October 23, 2010 at the Waimea community center, next to the ball field off Mamalahoa Hwy , Kamuela, HI 96743. Hours are 10AM to around 3PM. Doors open 9AM for setup. Please stay for cleanup.
    Sponsored by Big Island ARC, Kona ARS, and Kohala Hamakua ARC. The event is free however registration at the door is required and donations will be accepted to offset costs. Sellers are asked for a 10% donation of their sales. There will BIARC ARRL Testing session about noon. Please note that this is a non-commercial event that promotes the trading of equipment and information between hams and the general public and to promote the open exchange of information concerning the benefits of exploring Ham Radio as a hobby. Talk in on 147.16+ MHz or on the rest of the island of Hawaii, on the BIWARN system.

    On the Hilo side...
    • There is a  daily gathering at the Hilo Jack in the Box restaurant, Mile Marker 2, Volcano Highway, 8:30 to 10:30 mornings
    • There is a tailgate swap meet event scheduled every third Saturday monthly. Wailoa State Park, Hilo, 10 am to 12 noon. See the cars with call letter plates at thePuna side of the Waiakea Pond. Lunch follows in the park.
