Next Meeting


The Kona Amateur Radio Society shall hold a regular meeting on

Sunday, Sep 28
from 2 to 5 PM

at the south end of Wawaloli Beach Park at NELHA

All members, friends, and those interested in amateur radio are invited. A potluck picnic will take place during the meeting and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.

KARS continues to hold regularly scheduled meetings on the forth Sunday of each month.

This month's club meeting food theme will be Mediterranean food in celebration of the end of Ramadan. Please bring a favorite dish to share.

  • Big Island of Hawaii International Swap meet / Ham fest - October 18th, 2014 - Waimea

    Schedule
    8:00am Breakfast at Hawaiian Style Cafe
    9:00am Vendor setup
    10:00am Doors open to public ( be sure to get your tickets for the raffle )
    11:00am Drawing for Major Door Prize
    12:00pm Swap meet portion closes, setup for VE testing.
    12:00pm - 1:00pm Lunch and cleanup.
    1:00pm VE testing ( a good time to upgrade your license )
    2:00pm Event comes to a close.
    
    There will be qsl card checking, raffles, and surprise giveaways thru out the day.

    Please note: This is a non commercial event that promotes the trading of equipment and information between hams and the general public and to promote the open exchange of exploring Ham Radio as a hobby.

  • KARS Monthly Breakfast
    In addition to the Kona Amateur Radio Society monthly meeting on the beach at NELHA the 4th. Sunday of the month at 2:00pm, we will now have a (HAM) breakfast at 808 Grindz restaurant in Kopika Plaza on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 8:30am.
    All club members and guest are welcome to attend this informal gathering.

  • Big Island of Hawaii International Swap meet / Ham fest - October 5th, 2013 - Waimea
  • The Big Island of Hawaii International Swap meet will be Saturday October 5th, 2013 at the Waimea Community Center , next to the ball field off Mamalahoa Highway in Kameula, Hawaii. There will be a $10 donation per table per seller and a $5 donation per attendee at time of registration.

    Schedule

    • 8:00am Breakfast at Hawaiian Style Cafe

    • 12:00pm Swap meet portion closes, setup for VE testing. Guest speakers, forum, presentations in adjoining room.
      • 12:00pm - 1:00pm Darryl Oliveira, Hawaii Cnty Civil Defense, and Bill Hanson, CERT Director, will give an overview of the value and role of the amateur radio community in support of the Civil Defense Agency and the desire to develop and incorporate a Auxiliary Communications System (ACS) into the emergency response capabilities within our community. All interested hams are encouraged to participate.
    • 1:00pm VE testing ( a good time to upgrade your license )
    • 2:00pm Event comes to a close, pack up clean up.

  • A new 2 meter repeater in North Hawaii?
  • Eric Grabowski, KH6CQ, District Emergency Coordinator for the Hawaii Amateur Radio Emergency Service, is working on a new 2 meter repeater that will cover most of the North Hawaii ARES district. This repeater will be on 147.84/24 MHz.

2011
  • Simulated Emergency Test - October 1, 2011 9:00 am - 12 noon HST
    Each year, amateur radio operators in Hawaii participate in the annual Simulated Emergency Test or SET. The national organization ARRL sponsors it for the first Saturday in October. The exercise in 2011 will be conducted on Saturday, October 1, 2010 9:00 am - 12 noon HST. The scenario for 2011 is a tsunami exercise, simulating the arrival of two destructive tsunamis from a 9.0 Moment earthquake.

  • Big Island International Hamfest - October 23, 2010
    The Big Island International Hamfest will be Sat. October 23, 2010 at the Waimea community center, next to the ball field off Mamalahoa Hwy , Kamuela, HI 96743. Hours are 10AM to around 3PM. Doors open 9AM for setup. Please stay for cleanup.
    Sponsored by Big Island ARC, Kona ARS, and Kohala Hamakua ARC. The event is free however registration at the door is required and donations will be accepted to offset costs. Sellers are asked for a 10% donation of their sales. There will BIARC ARRL Testing session about noon. Please note that this is a non-commercial event that promotes the trading of equipment and information between hams and the general public and to promote the open exchange of information concerning the benefits of exploring Ham Radio as a hobby. Talk in on 147.16+ MHz or on the rest of the island of Hawaii, on the BIWARN system.

    On the Hilo side...
    • There is a  daily gathering at the Hilo Jack in the Box restaurant, Mile Marker 2, Volcano Highway, 8:30 to 10:30 mornings
    • There is a tailgate swap meet event scheduled every third Saturday monthly. Wailoa State Park, Hilo, 10 am to 12 noon. See the cars with call letter plates at thePuna side of the Waiakea Pond. Lunch follows in the park.
