On very rare occasions, the weather atop Mauna Kea will create unique
conditions such as these. This photograph was taken as 60 knot winds
were whipping across the summit. Since the humidity was very high,
thousands of ice crystals formed on the ground. Some of the facilities,
such as the tubes of the weather tower (foreground), were covered with a
crust of ice.
