Re: CFHT, TERAPIX e-transfer weekly report
we are not aware of any local issues that might be causing the slow
transfer.
According to our logs, your first attempt to get the file mentioned
occurred on May 17th at 12:22:23 UT. This transfer was aborted after
175 seconds (transfer aborted by client). A second attempt was made
the next morning [June 18 at 07:46:39 UT] and succeeded after 2088
seconds.
I see that, on average, your transfers are taking ~550 seconds to
complete, a rate of about 550 Kbytes/second.
to get better transfer rates you might try doing multiple transfers
in parallel (our download manager tool provides a manual interface for
this, or you can write a script for the same affect).
Also, the campus network admins, and the admins of all the routers
between us and you could be contacted to ensure that the maximum
allowed traffic was getting through, this made a big difference for
UBC, which you can see in the table below, and I suspect that
Princeton has done something similar.
Here are some example rates to other sites connecting to the CFHT
collection:
Institution Rate (Kbytes/second)
IfA 500
UBC 6200
STSCI 340
strasbg 340
sinica (tw) 45
uni-bonn 574
iap 550
princeton 1312
cea 165
