CFHT UM2013 - Meeting Site

6-8 May 2013, Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Canada


The CFHT triennial Users' Meeting will be held at the Painter's Lodge and April Point Resort in Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Canada. The Painter's Lodge, a spectacular marine setting with a rich and noble history dating from its establishment in 1929, promises to be an ideal place for our meeting.

Welcome reception and Meeting dinner

A welcome reception will take place on Sunday, 5 May, at The Fireside Lounge at Painter's Lodge, from 5:00pm to 7pm. Please indicate your attendance to the reception by visiting the Reception Attendance and Payment page. Note that if you will be accompanied by a guest, there is a charge of $20 per guest. Registration, scheduled to open at 4pm on Sunday as well, will run into the welcome reception times nearby the reception site.


A meeting dinner has been organized on Tuesday, 7 May, at April Point Resort in Quadra Island, from 6:30 to 9:00pm. Water shuttle transport will be provided for the 7-minute journey. Please note that this event, although subsidized by CFHT, will require a payment of $40; payment may be made via paypal from the Banquet Payment page. While this event is extended to the meeting participants, guests may participate and should be specified in the Banquet Payment page also.

Lunch

Participants are free in their selection for lunch location. Painter's Lodge is offering a buffet lunch at the Legends Restaurant in the main building. The other alternative would be Campbell River town which is a 15-minute drive; please see a listing of the restaurants in this area.

Lodging

A block of rooms has been reserved at The Painter's Lodge and April Point Resort. The favorable room rates extended to the UM2013 participants range as follows: C$95 Garden view and Garden view loft rooms; C$105 Ocean view and Partial ocean view loft rooms. Suites and 1-2-3-bedroom cabins range from C$145 - C$225. If attendance surpaces the room availability at Painter's Lodge, April Point Resort offers ocean view rooms and suites ranging from C$95 to $145. Note that complimentary water shuttle between the two facilities runs every 30 minutes, starting early in the morning to late at night. Room reservations has a deadline of 60 days, thus making the deadline for reservations at 5 April 2013. Reservations should only be made as stated above in order to receive the rates quoted.

Transportation

There are various possibilities of reaching Campbell River:

By air: There are flights to Campbell River Airport (approximately 25 kms from Painter's Lodge) and transportation from the airport is available for C$11.00 per person each way, plus applicable taxes. There are also flights to Comox (approximately 45 kms from Painter's Lodge); transportation from the airport is available for C$22 per person each way, plus applicable taxes. Arrangements for these transfers from and to Painter's Lodge may be made in the same manner as making the room reservations and as detailed above.

Driving: Painter's Lodge is approximately 5 kms north of Campbell River, overlooking beautiful Discovery Passage. Guests driving to Painter's Lodge can select one of several ferry routes to Vancouver Island, and then follow the Island Highway north to Campbell River. Once in Campbell River, continue along the Island Highway (Hwy 19) until you turn right on McDonald Rd. Follow McDonald Rd. about 500m to the resort (1625 McDonald Road). The approximate driving time from Nanaimo is about 1.5 hours; 3.5 hours from Victoria. If staying at April Point, you may drive to Painter's Lodge, park your vehicle there and take the free water shuttle to April Point Resort.
