Title: World leading science from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument
Presenter: Will Percival
Abstract:
In 2018-19, the 4m Mayall telescope was converted into a dedicated spectroscopic facility by the addition of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). The first year of data, publicly released in March 2025 as Data Release 1 contained twice as many unique objects outside our galaxy as in all previous 3D spectroscopic surveys combined, and has enabled a wealth of science. The cosmological results enabled by this sample have been spectacular, with Baryon Acoustic Oscillation measurements testing the LCDM paradigm. The DR2 BAO results were released earlier this year using 3 years of data. In this talk, I will review DESI and recent world-leading science highlights.
