Title: Magnetism in delta Scuti stars
Presenter: Keegan Thomson-Paressant
Abstract:
The first magnetic δ Scuti stars were only identified in recent decades. However, ongoing spectropolarimetric observations have led to a growing catalog of known magnetic δ Sct stars and a detailed characterization of the magnetic fields in some cases. Amongst these targets there appears to be a diverse range of field strengths, spanning from a few G up to several tens of kG, suggesting a broader range of magnetic field strengths in this class compared to other intermediate-mass stars. To better understand this diversity and the role of magnetism in δ Sct stars, we examine the relationships between magnetic fields and other stellar properties, such as pulsations, convection, and evolutionary stage. In this talk, I will present the sample of magnetic δ Scuti stars, their diversity, and our statistical findings on this and neighbouring families of variable stars.
