Title: Magnetic massive stars with SPIRou
Presenter: Veronique Petit
Abstract:
Traditionally, spectropolarimetric observations of massive stars have concentrated on the optical wavelength range, both because these stars are blue and because of the available spectral lines. However, the next generation of spectropolarimeters, such as SPIRou at the CFHT, now offers the opportunity to investigate massive star magnetism in the infrared. While spectral lines may be more sparse in this range, the Zeeman effect is stronger at longer wavelengths, and infrared observations allow us to hunt for new magnetic stars in heavily obscured regions of our galaxy. We present preliminary analysis of SPIRou circular polarization observations of well-known magnetic massive stars and compare them with optical results.
