Title: SpecpolFlow: a new spectropolarimetric data analysis package
Presenter: Colin Folsom
Abstract:
The ESPaDOnS and SPIRou instruments at the CFHT have been tremendously productive, providing spectroscopic and polarimetric data for a wide range of stars. However, the analysis and interpretation of these spectropolarimetric data require specialized tools. SpecpolFlow is a free open source Python package, which provides a collection of tools for analyzing data from high resolution spectropolarimeters. The tools are designed to be user-friendly, accessible to professional researchers and students, and are well documented. The SpecpolFlow can be used in Jupyter notebooks or other Python scripts through a documented API, or the tools can be used through a command line interface. The package includes tools for normalizing spectra, calculating Least Squares Deconvolution (LSD) profiles, generating and optimizing line masks for LSD, and calculating longitudinal magnetic fields. The SpecpolFlow team has published a set of detailed tutorials on our website. We announce the official release of SpecpolFlow, through pip as well as GitHub, and highlight some early examples of its use in scientific publications.
