CloudCam1 (East)

View nearly due east and includes the city of Hilo and it’s environs north along the Hamakua Coast and south towards Puna. Maunakea pu'u (cinder cones) are visible in the foreground.

CloudCam2 (Southwest)

View to the southwest including some of CFHT’s neighbour observatories along Maunakea’s East Ridge and down into the Saddle between Maunakea and Maunaloa.

CloudCam3 (Rift Zone)

NO LONGER OPERATIONAL.
View towards Kilauea’s Lower East Rift Zone; the area of Lower Puna where volcanic eruptions caused widespread devastation in 2018.

CloudCams Around the World

A number of observatories host CloudCams

  • Gemini North Observatory

    Five CloudCams are located at Gemini North, just south of CFHT on the summit of Maunakea.

  • Gemini South Observatory

    Five CloudCams are located at Gemini South, atop Cerro Pachon in the Chilean Andes of South America.

  • W. M. Keck Observatory

    One CloudCam is located at the W. M. Keck Observatory, sited west across the summit of Maunakea from CFHT.
