The Upcoming 10 Years at CFHT

As CFHT approaches the end of the current Maunakea lease, we plan to spend the remainder of this decade working in close consultation with the newly formed Maunakea Stewardship and Oversight Authority (MKSOA), our Hawaiʻi community, and our astronomy community to build a collaborative future that we hope results in the continuation and upgrade of CFHT on Maunakea past 2033.

Based on our decades of experience and preparing for a bright future that includes MSE, CFHT is considering a streamlined instrumental and operational plan for the next 10 years. As agreed with CFHT's Scientific Advisory Council and Board of Directors, CFHT is seeking input from the user community on this plan.

For this consultation of the user community, CFHT releases a survey which was open for about a month.

In preparation for this survey, CFHT held two online discussions during which we presented the plan and responded to questions and comments. The sessions were held Aug 30 at 7 am HST and Sep 5 at 3 pm HST. The Zoom sessions were recorded and the recordings are posted below for the duration of the consultation, along with a copy of the slides.

For details regarding two of the components of our plan, we direct you to our Projects Page to learn more about VISION and Pathfinder. You can also download primers about MSE and Pathfinder. Details regarding the new proposed SITELLE Halpha filter are also available.
